Playa Grande
Located within Las Bualas National Park and next
to Tamarindo offers white sand beaches and clear blue waters. Playa Grande
is famous because of very special visitors, the leatherback turtles, which
come by hundreds each year to lay their eggs, between October and
April.
Rincon de
la Vieja National
Park
An active volcano with nine identified craters on its summit. Mud geysers,
hot springs
, and steam
vents can be observed at the foot of the ridge in the Las Pailas area. The reserve located in the humid tropical
forest zone, protects an important watershed and is one of the few areas
where pure stands of oak can be found. Mammals are abundant, with three
species of monkeys regularly encountered. More than 200 species of birds
reside within the park.
BahiaCulebra
A small bay located just north from Playa del Coco and Playa Hermosa. Makes
for reat snorkeling with its wide variety of
corals and fish.
Playa Flamingo
Playa Flamingo once known as
WhiteBeach
(Playa Blanca)
is another not to be missed beach; Here you will find a small bay called Bahia Flamingo. The area offers a golf resort, a large
Sport fishing fleet, and one of the largest marinas in the country.
Guaitil's Pottery Guaitil is a quaint little village located east
of the town of
Santa Cruz
which is the primary center of Costa Rican folklore. The inhabitants here
who are descendants of the Chorotega Indians, who
in turn, were descendants of the Mayans, have proudly kept their traditions
and culture alive.
